Linux is a Unix based Operating System.
It comes in many distribution forms. One of them is Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is an Open Source operating system. Open Source is a general term that means, free to use. It however comes with little or no support from the programmers. You can also share and copy it without paying royalty fees. The additional software is also free, but it is the users responsibility to find software that meets the needs of the user.
If you find errors in the coding of the software, it is specified that you send the developers your work. So, it is a cooperative effort all around. Ubuntu, as all linux systems, has very good security and it is very rare to find viruses that will infect it. As long as you don’t use it for hosting applications it is relatively safe and secure from normal Windows attacks.
Freeday Open Source Software celebrates the people that write the Open Source software. This is a day where people get together worldwide and celebrate what this does for developers and information technology. Information Technology should be inclusive because it allows for contributions from people that otherwise would be excluded from the discussion.
